WorkBlog
Well I am going to start a workblog. Why call it a workblog? Well I think its a different nature than a personal blog. Perhaps because its not as personal. After all, how much do you want to expose about what you do at work? Perhaps blogging is an effective tool for a Christian, because it causes you to think about the way you should say something, if said to the world. I wish that were true of what we say in private, or behind someone's back... as if, in those circumstances, we are no longer representing Christ.
I am not going to promise I will post something of the "workblog" type in this space every day. But I would say that at least every friday it would be good to write down something meaningful about the week. Most of what you will see here, will be related to a broad range of IT topics.
So this week? Well I might be too fried to describe it.
The most important thing this week was launching this site, so that the [AWG] can collaborate and communicate its research. We'll see how this medium works for the [Password Reset] Process Improvement, which will take much of my time the next two weeks.
The other big time consumer this week was lengthly meetings kicking off the Graduate Web Registration project, a project essential to the rising goal of self-service. Also working with a project team to get APU policies on the Web, where all things must go.
The most nostaligic part of the week was laying to rest the old RS6000, apolis, that ran the library system for the last 12 years. One of the first boxes I was responsible for SysAdmin'ing and really my only AIX experience. It also, unless I am mistaken, still holds the record for the box with the longest uptime at 429 days. Of course that means I was a bad SysAdmin because I didn't reboot for patches etc., but thats part of the problem with a half-vendor managed box. But still I have respect for Unix, and IBM hardware, for a system to run that long, getting pounded very heavily every single day.
