The Research Internships are designed to assist students interested in pursuing a special project during an 8-week period, May – July. The funding involves a research project under the supervision of a chemistry or biology faculty member. There is a $2,500 stipend with a $200.00 housing allowance if needed. Students must be a current full-time, upper-division, undergraduate student of APU or the SCCCU consortium, must return to campus the following September and be registered as a major within their respective Department. Applicants should have had General Biology, General Chemistry, Microbiology and Cell Biology. Unless stated otherwise there one Internship in chemistry and two in
biology will be available. The applications are due March 10, 2002. Turn it in to your Department Chair. The fellowship will be announced shortly thereafter. If you receive the fellowship and leave the program or change your intention, the Internship money will revert back to APU to the Department of Biology and Chemistry to be given to another student. There is an expectation that as a result of receiving a Research Internship there would be a commitment to present your research in some way—poster at a conference, article authored or coauthored with a faculty member or special presentation at APU during the Common Day of Learning (CDL) research presentations. Complete the attached form and include a one-page resume. (See the attached example.) The Selection Committee consists of the Department Chair plus two other faculty members – one from chemistry and one from biology. Most
university career centers offer “resume writing” workshops
periodically that may be of some help when composing your application. Summer
