Enhancing Your Course
Video
Follow these steps to request video (DVD, VHS, Digital) to be placed in your course:1. Confirm Copyright and Permissible Use.
- Copyright protected material from a textbook publisher requires publisher permission for digital viewing.
- Feature films may be shown in small clips as you would in a face-to-face course, but showing a complete movie requires publisher permission.
- All other videos that are not copyrighted may be used with no restrictions.
for more information regarding copyrights at a higher education institution.
2. Complete the Video Upload Request form.
3. Drop off your videos and forms to Steve Mclean at the Center for eLearning and Teaching (CeLT). The process takes a week, and instructors receive email notification when the video appears in their course.
Audio
Adding audio to a course is a relatively simple task that can be performed by the professor. Audio can be “ripped” from CDs using Windows Media Player or iTunes. Audio should be ripped to either MP3 or WMA formats and uploaded within Media Gallery. For assistance in adding audio, email smclean@apu.edu at CeLT.Photos/Graphics
Photos and other graphics can enhance online instruction. For assistance in adding photos or graphics to a course, email smclean@apu.edu at CeLT.PowerPoint
For a PowerPoint presentation that slides only, with no audio or video, a professor can upload the file into “Resources” within the course. Students download the file to view it. (For student convenience, you may want to save the file as a PDF.)For a PowerPoint presentation that has narration, there are two options. 1) A professor can upload the file into “Resources” within the course. Students download the file to view it. (For this option, narrator’s need to use PowerPoint’s standard narration tool.) 2) CeLT can convert the presentation into a MP4 video file that plays in Media Gallery within your course.
PowerPoint presentations that contain video must be converted into a MP4 video file by CeLT and then posted in Media Gallery.
When submitting PowerPoint files for conversion to a MP4 video file, use these guidelines: Files 25Mb or smaller can be emailed to smclean@apu.edu for conversion. Larger files should be delivered by hand or uploaded into Resources in your course. CeLT removes the file from Resources for conversion and placement in Media Gallery.
