PLAYERS OF THE WEEK BASEBALL PLAYER CARL GALLOWAY ~ Biola University Junior ~ 1B/Catcher ~ Carlsbad, California Carl Galloway was 11-for-19 (.579) at the plate with 3 doubles, 1 home run, 6 runs and 5 RBI as Biola won all 4 of its games last week. He was 4-for-5 with a double and home run in the 10-9 victory over Grand Canyon AZ. In the conference win against Azusa Pacific, Galloway was 3-for-4 with 3 RBI. In the sweep at NCAA Division II Sonoma State, he had 4 hits and scored 3 runs. Galloway is now Biola's all-time leader in home runs with 41. Galloway was chosen as the NAIA Region II Baseball Player of the Week. In the loss at Concordia, he was 3-for-4 with 3 RBI. In the sweep of The Master's, he was 4-for-8 with 2 runs, 1 double, 1 home run and 4 RBI. Wyatt was chosen as the NAIA Region II Baseball Player of the Week. BASEBALL PITCHER MIKE EKSTROM ~ Point Loma Nazarene University Junior ~ RHP ~ Gresham, Oregon Mike Ekstrom pitched a complete-game shut out in the first game of No. 11-ranked Point Loma Nazarene's doubleheader sweep of No. 4-ranked Biola. In 9 innings of work, he allowed only 3 hits and no walks, while striking out 10 batters. Ekstrom was named the NAIA Baseball Pitcher of the Week. BASEBALL PLAYER PHIL SESTON ~ The Master's College Sophomore ~ First Base ~ Palmdale, California Phil Seston was 8-for-17 (.471) at the plate with 8 runs, a double, a triple, 4 home runs, and 12 RBI as The Master's earned 4 conference wins last week, including the completion of a suspended game against Vanguard. In the 15-13 win over Westmont, Seston hit for the cycle recording 5 RBI. In the doubleheader sweep of Vanguard, he was 3-for-7 (.429) with 4 runs, 3 home runs and 7 RBI. Seston was named the NAIA Region II Baseball Player of the Week. BASEBALL PITCHER GARET HILL ~ Biola University Sophomore ~ RHP ~ Chino, California Garet Hill pitched a complete-game shut out in Biola's win against Azusa Pacific. In 9 innings of work, he allowed 6 hits and 3 walks, while striking out 6 batters. This was the first complete-game shutout for the Eagles this season. Hill was selected as the NAIA Region II Baseball Pitcher of the Week. Ap BASEBALL PLAYER GLENN HEDGPETH ~ Azusa Pacific University Senior ~ Second Base ~ Huntington Beach, California Glenn Hedgpeth was 6-for-16 (.375) at the plate with 5 runs, 1 double, 4 home runs, 13 RBI and a stolen base as Azusa Pacific went 2-2 for the week. In the win against The Master's, he had a home run and 3 RBI. In the victory at Cal State LA, he hit a double and a home run to earn 6 RBI. In the doubleheader losses at No. 5-ranked Point Loma Nazarene, Hedgepeth recorded 2 home runs and 4 RBI. Of his 6 hits last week, 4 were home runs. Hedgpeth was selected as the NAIA Region II Baseball Player of the Week. BASEBALL PITCHER NICK GOR ~ California Baptist University Senior ~ RHP ~ Yorba Linda, California Nick Gor pitched 8 innings in California Baptist's victory at Westmont. He struck out 8 batters while giving up only 4 hits, 1 walk and 1 earned run. This season Gor is 4-0 with a 2.50 ERA and 34 strikeouts. Gor was named the NAIA Region II Baseball Pitcher of the Week. A BASEBALL PLAYER OSCAR ENRIQUEZ ~ California Baptist University Senior ~ Utility ~ Corona, California Oscar Enriquez was 8-for-11 (.727) with 3 doubles, 4 runs and 2 RBI as California Baptist won both of its games last week. In the win at Vanguard, he was 3-for-5 (.600) with 1 double. In the victory at CS Dominguez Hills, Enriquez went 5-for-6 (.833) with 2 doubles and 4 runs. His 5-hit effort against CS Dominguez Hills is the best by a Lancer this season and his second 5-hit game of the season. Enriquez was chosen as the NAIA Region II Baseball Player of the Week. BASEBALL PITCHER SAL POTI ~ Biola University Junior ~ RHP ~ Fullerton, California Sal Poti earned 1 win and 2 saves as Biola won 3-of-4 games last week. In the win against The Master's, he pitched 2 innings giving up only 1 hit and striking out 2. In the win at Westmont, Poti pitched 1 inning and did not give up a hit, run or walk to earn the save. In the second-game victory of a doubleheader split at Hawaii Pacific, Poti pitched 1.1 innings giving up 1 walk and recorded his second save of the week. Poti was named the NAIA Region II Baseball Pitcher of the Week. April BASEBALL PLAYER STEPHEN VOGT ~ Azusa Pacific University Freshman ~ Catcher/DH ~ Visalia, California Stephen Vogt extended his hitting streak to 23 games as Azusa Pacific swept Vanguard in a conference doubleheader. He was 7-for-10 at the plate with 4 runs, 1 double, 1 home run and 4 RBI. In the first game of the doubleheader he was 3-for-5 (.600) and recorded an RBI. In the second game, Vogt was 4-for-5 (.800) with 4 runs, a double, a homer and 3 RBI. Vogt was named the NAIA Region II Baseball Player of the Week. BASEBALL PITCHER NICK GOR ~ California Baptist University Senior ~ RHP ~ Yorba Linda, California Nick Gor pitched California Baptist to a 1-0 shutout of No. 4-ranked Point Loma Nazarene. He went all 7 innings and struck out 7 while allowing 5 hits, 2 walks, and no runs. It was his first complete game and first shutout of the season. Gor currently is 5-0 with a 2.12 ERA and 41 strikeouts in 46.2 innings this season. Gor was selected as the NAIA Region II Baseball Pitcher of the Week. April BASEBALL PLAYER STEVE CROUCH ~ California Baptist University Senior ~ Catcher ~ Riverside, California Steve Crouch batted a team-high .500 (7-for-14) with 2 doubles, a home run and 8 RBI as California Baptist won 3 of 4 conference games last week. He had the game-winning RBI in the ninth inning in the win at No 8-ranked Biola. His first home run of the season at Concordia gave the Lancers insurance runs in the ninth inning. Crouch was 5-for-7 (.714) in a doubleheader split with No. 4-ranked Point Loma Nazarene with 2 doubles and 2 RBI. Crouch was selected as the NAIA Region II Baseball Player of the Week. BASEBALL PITCHER JOSH GRANT ~ Azusa Pacific University Junior ~ RHP ~ Whitefish, Montana In 10.1 innings of work, Josh Grant did not allow a run while walking 2 and striking out 4. Grant earned his first career shutout and first complete-game win against The Master's, giving up 5 hits and 1 walk while striking out 4. He pitched 1.1 innings in the second-game loss to Concordia, allowing 2 hits and 1 walk and striking out 1. Grant was chosen as the NAIA Region II Baseball Pitcher of the Week. May 3, 2004 BASEBALL PLAYER ANDY KROEKER ~ Biola University Junior ~ Catcher ~ Clovis, California Andy Kroeker was 8-for-12 (.667) at the plate as No. 7-ranked Biola won 2-of-3 GSAC games last week and moved into first place in the conference. For the week, he hit a double and a home run with 6 RBI. In the win at Azusa Pacific, he was 2-for-4 with a home run and 2 RBI. In a doubleheader split with No. 5-ranked Point Loma Nazarene, Kroeker was 6-for-8 at the plate with a double and 4 RBI. In the 20-5 win over the Sea Lions, he was part of Biola's 14-run, 11-hit record-breaking inning. Kroeker was chosen as the NAIA Region II Baseball Player of the Week. BASEBALL PITCHER MIKE GUERNSEY ~ Vanguard University Sophomore ~ RHP ~ Fountain Valley, California In 7 innings of work, Mike Guernsey allowed No. 5-ranked Point Loma Nazarene to score only 1 run (1.29 ERA) en route to Vanguard's 14-1 upset win. He allowed 3 walks and 5 hits, only 1 for extra bases, and struck out 3.
