Player of the Year: Shannon Coe, Azusa Pacific
MERCEDEZ RAY ~ San Diego Christian College Freshman ~ 5-4 ~ Forward ~ El Cajon, California Freshman forward Mercedez Ray scored 4 goals and had 2 assists in San Diego Christian's 12-0 win over visiting Fontbonne MO. She recorded her first hat trick (and one) in only the second game of her college career. The 4 goals ties the school record for goals in a game, making her the second freshman to accomplish this feat. Ray was chosen as the NAIA Region II Women's Soccer Player of the Week. September 12, 2005 SHANNON COE ~ Azusa Pacific University Senior ~ 5-8 ~ Forward ~ Temple City, California Senior forward Shannon Coe scored 7 goals in No. 3-ranked Azusa Pacific's 2 wins last week. She recorded her second career hat trick to account for all of the Cougars' goals in a 3-0 shutout at Chapman. Coe then scored a career-high 4 goals on 5 shots in a 9-0 win at Whittier. Coe was selected as the NAIA Region II Women's Soccer Player of the Week. September 19, 2005 JILL OLDRIGHT ~ The Master's College Sophomore ~ 5-6 ~ Forward ~ Edgewood, Washington Sophomore forward Jill Oldright contributed on 5 of her team's 6 goals as The Master's won both its games on the road against Cal-Pac schools. She recorded 9 points for the week with 4 goals and an assist. In the 4-1 win Cal State East Bay, she had 2 goals and an assist. Then in the 2-1 victory over Menlo, Oldright scored both goals, including a game-winning header in the 77th minute. Oldright was selected as the NAIA Region II Women's Soccer Player of the Week. September 26, 2005 SHANNON COE ~ Azusa Pacific University Senior ~ 5-8 ~ Forward ~ Temple City, California Senior forward Shannon Coe scored a pair of goals and recorded a pair of assists as Azusa Pacific defeated 2 NAIA Top-5 ranked teams on the road at the Kelme Classic hosted by Lindsey Wilson KY. Coe helped the Cougars end No. 1-ranked Lindsey Wilson's 35-game home unbeaten streak by scoring her tenth goal of the year and recordeing an assist in the 2-1 win. The next day, she again tallied a goal and an assist in the second half of a 4-1 victory over No. 4 Lee TN. Coe has scored a goal in 6 consecutive matches and has 11 goals on the season. She is currently in eighth place on the school's all-time scoring list with 81 points. Coe was named the NAIA Women's Soccer Player of the Week. October 3, 2005 HILARY DUNHAM ~ Biola University Senior ~ 5-7 ~ Goalkeeper ~ Sebastopol, California Senior goalie Hilary Dunham recorded 10 saves allowing only 1 goal in 200 minutes of play for .45 goals against average as No. 6-ranked Biola opened GSAC play with a tie and a win. In the 1-1 tie with No. 1-ranked Azusa Pacific, she had 3 saves in 110 minutes of work. Dunham then had 7 saves in a 2-0 shutout at Concordia. October 10, 2005 AMY LAWSON ~ Westmont College Freshman ~ 5-8 ~ Forward ~ Honolulu, Hawaii Freshman Amy Lawson recorded 4 goals as No. 12-ranked Westmont won both of its GSAC games last week. Lawson recorded the first goals of her collegiate career with a hat trick against The Master's. In the win at San Diego Christian, she scored the game-winning goal. For the week, she had a .571 shot percentage (4-for-7). Lawson was selected as the NAIA Region II Women's Volleyball Libero of the Week. October 17, 2005 HEATHER ANDREWS ~ California Baptist University Freshman ~ 5-5 ~ Goalkeeper ~ Moreno Valley, California Freshman goalie Heather Andrews allowed just 1 goal while facing 14 shots on goal (33 total shots) in 184 minutes for a 0.49 goals against average as California Baptist split its GSAC games last week. Andrews posted a shutout in a 1-0 overtime win against No. 5-ranked Biola, and then came up with 9 saves to keep the Lancers in the game in a 1-0 loss at No. 7 Westmont. Andrews was chosen as the NAIA Region II Women's Soccer Player of the Week. October 24, 2005 KATIE CAGEL~ Point Loma Nazarene University Freshman ~ 5-10 ~ Goalkeeper ~ Phoenix, Arizona Freshman goalie Katie Cagel recorded 2 shutouts as No. 17-ranked Point Loma Nazarene won both its conference games last week and remained in first place in the GSAC. Cagel had 6 saves in the win at Vanguard and 3 in the win over California Baptist. She now has 7 shutouts this season. October 31, 2005 KERI SCHULZ ~ Biola University Junior ~ 5-3 ~ Goalkeeper ~ Bend, Oregon In her first 2 collegiate starts, junior keeper Keri Schulz recorded 2 shutouts as No. 19-ranked Biola finished the regular season. In the scoreless tie at then No. 17 Point Loma Nazarene, she had 7 saves in 120 minutes of play. She had 6 saves in the 2-0 win against Hope International. Biola earned the second seed in the upcoming NAIA Region II Playoffs. Schulz was named NAIA Region II Women's Soccer Player of the Week. |
