KENYA MISSIONS TRIP APPLICATION

INTERNSHIP INFORMATION

To all CMIN and YMIN majors:

In your last full year (fall and spring) at APU you will be enrolled in CMIN401 and CMIN402 Christian Ministries Internship I/II.  This internship experience will involve a minimum of 100 hours each semester at an approved site with an approved supervisor, and this must be in place by the May Commencement date for the following academic year.  Pre-approved sites and supervisors with internship information are continually being posted on the APU Career Services website www.apu.edu/careerservices with a notation “CMIN401”.  If you are interested in a site and supervisor not yet approved, please have that supervisor contact us anytime so we can consider them for approval and posting.

As a declared major and as a student preparing for ministry, you should be actively involved in a local church.  This involvement accomplishes a couple of things:

1.       It places you in a diverse community of believers unlike the APU peer community.  You will personally benefit from being with people of all ages, and you will be engaged in a setting comparable to your future ministry.  You need them, and they need you.

2.       Interns often realize that their 8 month ministry connected to the internship class creates fragmentation…for them and for those with whom they are ministering.  For example, if you are in youth ministry and the teens bond with you for only 8 months, the ending process is difficult.  If you engage with a local church as soon as you declare your major (or before), you should make that choice with the thought of being there all the way through your internship.  You could be with them 2 or 3 years if not more.

There are more reasons than those two, but they are key.  If you are not engaged in this way, we want to help you.  Consider the following:

1.       Use the website CMIN401-approved information as described above to search for and decide on a local church home.

2.       Use the website information provided by the Campus Pastors Office to look for and find a church:  http://www.apu.edu/campuspastor/churches/listing\  If you find a place not yet approved for CMIN401 are interested in ministering there, contact us about whether they meet site and supervisor requirements.

3.       Visit local churches of interest on your own to seek possibilities, but put a time limit on how long you allow for this process.  Move toward commitment/engagement as soon as possible.
